SUMMARY:Dr. Talisa Dixon
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Talisa Dixon \nA veteran educator and longtime champion of equitable opportunities and student voice\, Dr. Talisa Dixon is in her fourth year as the Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of Columbus City Schools. \nHer 25-year (and counting) career in public education began in Akron Public Schools\, where she served as a social studies teacher\, then assistant principal. But she is no stranger to Columbus. \nCCS Leader on the Rise\nDr. Dixon spent nine years as an administrator in Columbus City Schools from 2001-2010. She served three years as an assistant principal at Brookhaven High School\, then six years combined as the principal at Brookhaven and at Columbus Alternative High School. \nShe began her tenure as Superintendent/CEO in March 2019 after five years of leading the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District in Northeast Ohio. \nUpon returning to Columbus to lead the state’s largest school district\, serving nearly 50\,000 students\, Dr. Dixon hit the ground running\, with a 100-day community engagement tour to gather feedback from a variety of community stakeholders\, including students\, staff\, and families. \nFrom there\, she created the Department of Engagement to more meaningfully connect with our families and community partners\, and the Department of Equity with the District’s first-ever Chief Equity Officer to bring Equitable Opportunities for All to CCS. \nIn addition\, she created the Department of Transformation and Leadership and divided the District into six regions\, each with an Area Superintendent\, to provide an intentional focus on leadership development and guided regional support. \nDr. Dixon successfully led CCS through the global COVID-19 pandemic\, making shifts from remote to hybrid to full in-person learning while implementing creative strategies to meet the needs of students and their families. She did so while still leading the important work of engaging the community and establishing priorities to create and introduce CCS’ new five-year Strategic Plan – the Power of One – and Portrait of a Graduate\, outlining the community’s hopes\, dreams\, and aspirations for all CCS students. \nShe has been commended by city and education leaders for her commitment and leadership in bringing the Portrait of a Graduate to fruition and advancing her vision for Columbus City Schools. \nDr. Dixon has been and continues to be a voice of leadership throughout Central Ohio\, connecting with local civic\, business\, and non-profit partners all for the benefit of CCS students. She has embraced the power of partnerships and has developed a plethora of meaningful relationships throughout the city\, reflecting her vision of the Power of One. \nOne of many notable partnership endeavors\, Dr. Dixon joined City leaders\, Columbus State Community College (CSCC)\, I Know I Can\, and area business leaders to launch the Columbus Promise in 2021\, an initiative providing free tuition for CCS seniors to attend Columbus State and continue their education after high school. \nShe also partnered with the City of Columbus\, The Ohio State University\, and CSCC in 2021 to introduce STEAMM Rising\, an initiative focused on developing the next generation of teachers and students focused on innovation and to ensure STEAMM (science\, technology\, engineering\, arts\, mathematics\, and medicine) talent continues to thrive in Columbus. \nDr. Dixon currently serves on the board of directors for several local organizations in Central Ohio\, including I Know I Can\, the Council of Great City Schools\, Otterbein University\, and the United Way of Central Ohio. \nFor the past three years\, Dr. Dixon has also served as Superintendent in Residence at The Ohio State University College of Education and Human Ecology. The fellowship program brings together Ohio superintendents from urban\, rural\, and suburban school districts to share knowledge with the college and develop active research agendas and shared learning that benefits school communities. \n  \nDr. Talisa Dixon\, Superintendent \nColumbus City Schools \n270 E. SUMMARY:Robert Clark
DESCRIPTION:Director Robert Clark\nRobert Clark was appointed Director of the Columbus Department of Public Safety on September 3\, 2021. A native of Youngstown\, Ohio\, Director Clark is excited to return to his home state and take on this role at such a critical time. Clark believes his track record as a leader in innovative and service-oriented policing will help him advance change\, build community trust\, and keep Columbus residents safe.\nClark brings 35 years of local\, federal and international law enforcement experience. In 1989\, he began his career at the Youngstown Police Department. He was assigned to the Special Investigation Unit as a Vice and Narcotics Officer and the Community Police Unit downtown. Clark trained officers in identifying and investigating gang activity\, often collaborating with the ATF and FBI. His experience led him to the U.S. Department of Justice FBI field office in Los Angeles\, CA\, in 1995. Clark served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge\, managing an annual budget of more than $25 million and leading more than 350 agents and task force officers from 10 agencies\, focusing on gangs\, violent crime\, drug cartels and crimes against children. Clark’s achievements included building a first-of-its-kind virtual homicide library\, assembling Operation SOS (Save our Streets) to target gang-related homicides\, cold cases and violent crimes\, and collaborating with community leaders to build youth outreach and intervention programs in vulnerable neighborhoods. Operation SOS solved 650 cold case murders and violent crimes over six years. Most recently\, Clark was the Senior Superintendent for the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service. He oversaw intelligence efforts and helped build infrastructure to upgrade policies and strategies for combating violent crime and improving community relations.\nClark is an avid believer in the power of community service and giving back. He partnered with the LAPD to produce the 2011 Community Impact Program\, a comprehensive crime reduction strategy that combined community service with crime prevention efforts. The program led to his founding of New Point Mentoring\, Inc. New Point’s team of mentors have served more than 4\,000 youth in providing life-building and sustaining skills.\nClark has a deep empathy for those impacted by crime. At 13 years old\, he lost his father to gun violence. That tragedy and his lived experience have driven his desire to serve others.\n“I’m from the inner city\, from public housing\, from foster care. And having those experiences really allows me to directly relate to our community. I have a servant’s heart and because of where I’m from and where I have been in my career\, I have the ability and the passion to listen to the community\, and understand their needs and concern\,” he said.\nClark has volunteered with numerous organizations dedicated to combatting human trafficking and addiction and also mentoring at-risk youth. Clark has been recognized for his public service through awards and recognition including the Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches Community Service Award\, LAPD Inaugural Homer Broome Community Service Award\, Justice for Murdered Children Community Leadership Award\, FBI Assistant Directors Award\, El Salvador National Civil Police Award and Proclamation from the City of Youngstown Award. Additionally\, Clark was featured on television shows including the A&E Investigative Series “Untold Stories” and CBS Reality Show “Hunted.”\nClark received his Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from Youngstown State University. Currently he is a doctoral candidate in Organizational Leadership & Social Justice at Adler University. \nRobert Clark\, Public Safety Director \n77 N Front Street \nColumbus\, OH  43215 \n[614] 645-8210 \nRwclark@columbus.gov \n  \nExecutive Asst.
